[singlepic id=3 w=320 h=240 float=] This is the first of a number of Fisher-Price products we’ve purchased from their “Rainforest” series. We liked the series a lot because, in a world of baby products where everything tends to be either blue or pink in the early months, it’s a gender neutral scheme that’s fun and colorful (i.e. if you fathers of daughters are sick of pink, this is the way to go). We researched the product a fair amount and you can’t really go wrong with the Fisher-Price Rainforest Gym or, frankly, any of the other well regarded similar products available. Paying extra for some added bells and whistles is probably not worth it.
The music is whimsical and the lights are fun without being seizure inducing. In the first few weeks, playtime is pretty short in between sleeping and feeding, but this activity mat can be used pretty early on. At first, our little package did a lot of watching the lights, which grew into to kicking some of the sound making attachments with a foot and later on to a lot grabbing and playing.
The lifespan of the playmat is about 6 or 7 months or until sitting and crawling really kick in. By then interests will have moved on elsewhere. We still kept the mat in the room anyway and she sometimes would stop and play for a bit or support herself standing on the arches.
Value: Fairly valued
Lifespan: 6-7 months, or until the start crawlin
